Sarah Powers [email protected]
Hello! My name is Sarah Powers, and I am so lucky to be teaching 2nd grade at Olivet Elementary! I knew I wanted to be a teacher at just 5 years old and still think it’s the best job in the world! I went to school at Santa Rosa JC and Sonoma State and earned degrees in Early Childhood Development, Behavioral Science, and Liberal Studies, as well as a multiple subject teaching credential. I have also had the fun experience of being a lead art instructor at Camp Galileo in the Bay Area for 5 years which taught me a lot about the importance of fun, hands-on learning. I started my first official teaching job right out of college and taught first grade for 4 years before finding Transitional Kindergarten, now I am on to 2nd grade and can't wait!
One of the reasons I love teaching is because there is still so much magic in learning. I love seeing pure happiness in a student who just learned that their name starts with the letter of the week, or to see eyes fill with amazement in a class that just watched a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. I also love the relationships that I build with students and their families. I feel so lucky I get to be the first step in their child’s academic journey and thrive to make it as special as possible.
