Hello! My name is Jenna Green and I have the wonderful opportunity of teaching First Grade at Olivet Elementary. I have had the great benefit of always knowing that I wanted to teach. I grew up being the daughter of an elementary school teacher and the niece of a school librarian and I spent a great deal of my free time in the classrooms making samples, organizing desks and shelves and grading papers. To me, a classroom has always felt like home.
I began studying Child Development in High School in El Dorado County. From there, I moved to Sonoma County to attend Sonoma State University majoring in Human Development and minoring in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation, I was hired as a Pre-K teacher at Mt. Taylor Children’s Center where I taught the pre-kindergarten students for 5 years. In 2016, I returned to Sonoma State ro receive my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in teaching English Language Learners. I traveled around Rohnert Park/Cotati Schools as well as Old Adobe Elementary in First Grade levels for a couple years. During this time I worked with SCOE to complete a research project called The Rooster Fellowship which studied student engagement in the classroom. Finally in 2019, I found my home at Olivet Elementary.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading and crafting. My hands start to get itchy if I don’t have a project to work on whether it be painting, crocheting or quilting. I am a big fan of black and white movies and shows (I Love Lucy, anyone!?) and I love hiking and exploring Sonoma County. My sister lives in Scotland with her husband so any chance to fly overseas is an added bonus!
A few things we learn about in First Grade include writing (narrative, informational and opinion) pieces, community helpers and United States Symbols. Our science program is a hand-on learning approach learning many things from sounds and vibrations, wind and air systems and learning about plant needs and animal habitats.
Here are a few First Grade Field Trips to look forward to!
