Hello! My name is Erin Belfils and I teach first grade at Olivet Elementary Charter School. My own journey as a student has included unique educational experiences as an exchange student in both Ireland and Brazil, as an environmental field research student in Kenya, and as a college student studying in Thailand. I also taught English at a Private school in Taiwan for two years. I believe these opportunities have provided me with additional insight into the cultural and language challenges experienced by many students. Upon returning home from teaching abroad I moved to Sonoma County and began my journey here at Piner-Olivet Union School district!
Prior to becoming a teacher, I grew up in Long Beach, California and later moved to San Luis Obispo where I received my bachelor of science in City and Regional Planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. I also completed two certifications to teach English as a second language and ultimately got my teaching credential from California State University Los Angeles. Outside of school I enjoy camping, traveling and anything that gets me out into nature. I LOVE walking through the redwoods and searching for banana slugs. A few things we learn about in First Grade include writing (narrative, informational and opinion) pieces, community helpers and United States Symbols. Our science program is a hand-on learning approach learning many things from sounds and vibrations, wind and air systems and learning about plant needs and animal habitats. Here are a few First Grade Field Trips to look forward to!
