Carrie Forrest [email protected]
Greetings! My name is Carrie Forrest! I have had the rather unique opportunity of working at all four of the district’s elementary schools. I actually started here at Olivet and then moved to Schaefer. From there I was fortunate enough to be one of the staff members who opened Jack London Elementary. I was only able to teach for one year at Piner before the board voted to close it as an elementary school. Of course I was very happy to then return here to Olivet, which I consider my home away from home.
I am very much a local girl, born and raised here in Sonoma County. I was a Piner-Olivet student myself, as were my four brothers, my own kids and many nieces and nephews. My mom was also a long time employee of this district. As you can imagine, it is very near and dear to my heart!
There are many things I love about teaching second grade. The students are eager to learn and they grow and change so much throughout the year. It is a joy to take that journey with them.
Along with the work we do in reading, writing and math, we also have a lot of fun exploring science concepts, geography, social studies and art. Each month students give a speech to the class and I have loved watching their self-confidence grow as they take center stage.
My teaching partner and I both love providing students with hands-on learning and unexpected activities. We work hard to create a positive learning environment for all of our students, where everyone is welcome!
A few fun field trips we enjoy doing with our second graders may include The Petaluma Wildlife Museum and/or Safari West, the Northwest Library near Coddingtown, an outdoor hike at Spring Lake or another local park and a show or two at the LBC.
