Fifth Grade
Greetings 5th Families! It’s a pleasure to have you a part of our class. My name is Amelia True and I am very pleased to be a part of our Olivet community.
I was born and raised in Santa Rosa, spending Kindergarten through 3rd grade at Schaefer (that’s right! I’m a POUSD alum!) and graduated from Montgomery High School. I received my BA and teaching credential from Mills College, in Oakland, CA.
This is my ninth year in teaching and my sixth year in 5th grade, and my 3rd year at Olivet. I LOVE 5th graders! They are so sharp and funny. They can think more deeply about serious issues and they are so much more independent. Some of my favorite things to do with 5th graders are social studies projects. They learn how to work together, research interesting information, construct a report and present it.
In 5th grade we work with decimals to the thousandths, multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals, volume of 3D objects, and diving deeper into solving multi-step word problems. The bulk of our reading instruction is comprehension based, reading novels, and researching.
I believe in the uniqueness of each child and honor the journey they are on in their education. I work hard to make sure each child in my class receives the instruction and care they need to improve and meet grade level standards.
When I’m not working I love spending time with my husband and children. I have a new baby at home and a TK student at Olivet. On the weekends you can find us at the pool, the beach, or any other body of water.
I’m looking forward to another great year at Olivet!
