Greetings,
My name is Karie Seliga. I moved to Sonoma County 23 years ago to be close to my family. I feel very blessed to live and work in this beautiful place. I have a daughter named Jamie who lives, works, and continues to go to school at Sonoma State with a dream of being a doctor one day. I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, kayaking, and going camping any chance I can get.
I love working at Olivet because it is a small school in the country where the teachers, students, and parents all have a sense of community. My teaching career has spanned over 30 years. Over half my career has been dedicated to teaching 3rd grade and I feel fortunate to work with this age group. Third graders love school, love their teacher, and get excited over things like learning how to do a Google Slideshow and presenting it to the class. They also have the skills to be able to be independent workers and thinkers, work with partners, and work in groups in their quest for learning and teaching others. One of my favorite parts about teaching third grade is getting students excited about reading and writing! I also really love to teach them art, which we do often in conjunction with our 3rd grade units. In math, 3rd graders focus on learning multiplication and division concepts, adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers, simple geometry, and fractions. In science our big focus is on weather and climate, fossils, and animal adaptations. In social studies we focus on Native Americans and local tribes, geography, and the three branches of the government.
Our signature field trips in 3rd grade are:
*Laguna de Santa Rosa Or Kule Loclo at Point *Luther Burbank Center
*Sonoma County Regional Parks
*Oakland or SF Zoo
*Environmental Discovery Center at Spring Lake
